@peemee there is no evidence that shows a clear difference in infection (insertion site or bloodstream), blood clots, etc between IVs changed routinely or symptom-based (pain at the site or does not flush). We don’t routinely change them at my hospital.
@peemee that sounds like a helluva ordeal - sorry to hear that! Interestingly, routine peripheral IV catheter replacement is a hospital policy, not strictly an evidence-based intervention.
