@joe @phoneboy d'oh. USPS is in a bad spot.

@joe @phoneboy though they've *been* in a bad spot for a long time.

@joe This line is infuriating: "UPS and FedEx have exploited this crisis by raising shipping rates, knowing that their competitor is being undermined from within."

Yet another knock on small business.

@joanna Plus to make matters worse, some of our politicians from both parties own some stock in FedEx or UPS so saving the US Postal Service is on the grim side at this point.

@j_r_snook That's part of the plan: to privatize the USPS and give their market share to FedEx and UPS. This details more of that. [prospect.org]

Washington State has these nice drop boxes for ballots, so we technically don’t even need the post office. Obviously, for states that haven’t been doing mass mail-in-votes, this is problematic.

Great example of this is New York [theatlantic.com], which primaries were a total disaster mail-in wise which is a major warning.

@joe @Kabuku @33MHz @phoneboy If the idea of deliberately slowing mail times affecting mail-in ballots isn't scary enough, the USPS goes the way of the Dodo, it will give Fedex and UPS free reign over the market.

@joe @Kabuku @33MHz @phoneboy contrast package rates for the USPS, Fedex, and UPS. It costs ~2-3x more to send a parcel with the private companies than those two. Now imagine what happens if the competition is gone.
