Printed airline tickets.

Their size (too big for pockets!) must be a remnant of some old computer system “standard.”

I may have to look into this.

@muncman How big were the punch cards now again? 🤔
1157414
@Streakmachine That was my first thought, too, but it has a been a while since I’ve seen those up close. :) The modern ones, at least, have the rounded bits, too.

In any case, it seems like something that will remain until someone budgets to change it.

@Kabuku Yeah, sorry, I’m referring to boarding passes. We use the phone version usually, too, but sometimes you can’t avoid getting handed printed ones (like when checking bags internationally).

@muncman @streakmachine ha, that's where I went too.
1157436
@muncman they're like the size of printed computer cards (1s and 0s), or time punch cards.
1157435
@33MHz Time punch cards!

@muncman There was an interesting talk about airline reservation systems - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_t41xvPp1w.

@Kabuku I lived it... finally got my checked bag back today (the flight was December 26th) and I couldn't stop thinking about this talk. @muncman

@kyle Glad you got it back! That is always the worst, which is part of why I try hard not to check a bag most of the time, but this time was for a “suitcase of sunscreen” for our group. (Might try shipping it in cardboard next time.)

@muncman This is the first time in years that I checked a bag. I try hard to avoid it. Then again I think I’m driving next time.

@Kabuku They gave out a $200 travel voucher, so at least there’s that.
