"Happily, the conclusion is boring: as always, the #pkgsrc 2024Q1 stable branch supports macOS. Curious what we had to do to keep it boring? Read on."

For #pkgsrc, zealous new warnings-as-errors are no good. We build quarterly releases of >25k other-people's-code on dozens of platforms. What to do? https://mail-index.netbsd.org/tech-pkg/2024/03/11/msg028994.html

#macOS Command Line Tools 15.3.0.0.1.1708646388 somehow ships without m4 or yacc.

#pkgsrc has a "tools" abstraction to deal with this, so we've dealt with it: https://github.com/NetBSD/pkgsrc/commit/b889d0bc0d9edd0d04311ec0c36de73ed644ab4d

Time for some silent hotel-room streaming. We'll start with updating the #pkgsrc package of #Python #ApprovalTests, then we'll find other things to do for however long naptime lasts.

Last week, Xcode 12 shipped an ambitious new #clang default: implicit function declarations are compile errors.

This week, #pkgsrc is trying to cut a stable release.

T at preschool. Me with Barenboim’s Chopin Nocturnes, @jb_kaffee, decent connection to my #pkgsrc platform farm in NY.

Returning to work next week after 4+ months: suddenly not just real, but also imaginable.

Curious what I'm up to, open-source-wise? Here are my latest commits (not counting branches) to #pkgsrc, #notqmail, and #ikiwiki: https://schmonz.com/commits

Say you've got #CentOS and want #qmail as your MTA, configured with sensible modern defaults. How long are you gonna need?

If you said "under five minutes", you're correct!

I've shipped quite a few improvements for #qmail users in the 2018Q4 release of #pkgsrc, the practical cross-platform Unix package manager. It's probably easy for you to run qmail now. https://schmonz.com/2019/01/07/2018q4-qmail-updates-in-pkgsrc/ #DevOps

I use a Mac, but don't particularly care for launchd. So I installed pkgtools/rc.d-boot and sysutils/daemontools-run from #pkgsrc and converted my custom launchd items from XML to tiny shell scripts. Nice.

Do you use #pkgsrc on non-#NetBSD? Do you _not_ run #qmail?

Great! Please update to pkgsrc-current and test two packages for me: https://mail-index.netbsd.org/pkgsrc-users/2018/12/17/msg027809.html

Today's update to my SMTP AUTH implementation for #qmail now also provides TLS for message submission and incoming deliveries, without patching! More: https://marc.info/?l=qmail&m=154171120706990&w=2

#pkgsrc has the latest qmail and qmail-run. :-)

I've been steadily committing to #pkgsrc since 2001. #pkgsrcCon returns to Berlin this July. http://pkgsrc.org/pkgsrcCon/2018/

Also this summer: I'm available to consult in Germany (and nearby)! https://noodle.s3rv.com/user/schmonz/#/post/281041/schmonz
