Pnut, what laptop should I buy?
- Budget is $1000, although I'll go up to $1200
- No mac, because I need to run full-featured visual studio
- Touchscreen preferred
- I already have a surface pro type cover and the latest surface pen
- I don't game

@caliban87 I would get a Lenovo if I couldn't use a desktop.

@33MHz why is that? Just curious. I actually have a super old lenovo that I used to use before the surface, and it was good

@Caliban87 I like the build quality. Compatible with linux (though that won't matter to you).

@Caliban87 but any of them will have more than most people need, and laptops are terrible.

@33MHz ok after a zoom call with a coworker and a million hours of googling to get my vscode anaconda environment to run properly (p.s. it still doesn't) I'm leaning towards a mac

@Caliban87 because everyone uses Mac, so they can tell you how to set it up on Mac?
860633
@33MHz because the mac is more standardized. I think it's an issue with the vscode instance of powershell, but we weren't able to fix it

@Caliban87 @33MHz While the keyboards aren't awful anymore, now's not a _great_ time to get an inexpensive Apple laptop because we're waiting Any Day Now™ for ARM-based Macs to be announced. How long does this laptop need to last?

@adiabatic @33MHz I ended up buying a Samsung laptop last week because my surface pro permanently died
