GitHub notifications are a constant stream of negativity about your projects. Nobody opens an issue or a pull request when they’re satisfied with your work. Even if you only spend a little time reading these, it can be mentally and emotionally exhausting. [nolanlawson.com]

@dgold I just ignore them myself either way, but apparently they weigh on some people. Notifications aside, maintenance burden can grow sharply it seems.

@dgold I have a bad habit of disabling notifications of all sorts. Mostly prefer to poll for what matters to me. GitHub notifications don't register, though their stars feature is a convenient if underpowered project-bookmark sync system.
