Shiny is better.

This morning I managed to get a good work day in on the #struggleville house, tearing out some wall and reinforcing the roof to prep for brick relay. Friend, neighbor, dad helped out. #house_rehab

Early mornings I've been organizing myself to tuck point the interior. Soft brick, nothing there. It's very rewarding!

Today's work: inside casing/jamb of the kitchen window. Glad to get that done! Needs filling, sanding, caulking, painting... but it's a big improvement. Number 4 agrees!

Finally, a picture of the finished kitchen shelf with some pans. It's sturdier than I expected it to be. I want to build a shelf under it all the way into the corner, but I need a nicer piece of wood I think.

The weather was so nice, I started taking the old porch platform apart this afternoon. #house_rehab

Finally a couple pictures -- here's the kitchen floor we were living with and now the proper vinyl floor I installed Saturday. Yay! #house_rehab @kabuku

Yesterday I got all the wood debris
1) in the dumpster or
2) piled up out of the way.

This was the worst thing we found: Most of the joists for the roof were sitting in joist hangers without any screws or nails in them! And just as bad, most of the hangers had a 1" spacer in them, so they were hardly overlapping. @#(*)*%)#! #house_rehab

Today's project: demoing the porch! Before and after! I am totally beat, totally beat up, bruised and battered. Recovering from dehydration. I'm OK! Wow, we got a lot done!!1

I took down the railing from the porch (not safe!), and there are ants all through the wood up there. Thing's going to come down altogether. Bad porch, bad.

I smoothed out the duct vent hole through the brick wall this afternoon, so I think I can get the duct through properly now. Need help, and will hopefully have it squared away! Also need to pick up a few copper wood screws.

I got the kitchen electric worked out in the basement. Still a couple old runs to pull out, but all the new is in and shiny. #house_rehab

We also pulled the hvac vents out of the floor, so the walls can go in. Need to cut new holes and put the vents back in, but the walls can go in without more work. So Monday is prepped!

The critical path is dealt with. We managed to take 50ft of redundant gas pipe out of the basement, a lot of unnecessary joints, and reuse piping to make much better connections, all while moving the stove gas to the new location.

I was cited by the city to fix my water meter box cover, so Dad and I patched it up. Two sides had rows of bricks underneath, which probably fell in the water below... We replaced the brick and then cemented them in.
