@rizenine You should talk bees and software with @33MHz

@33MHz @vagabond Howdy! :) Yes... Bees, 3D Printing and Software... sounds like fun to me. :)
778037
@rizenine Are you keeping bees these days? I just got a couple NUCs last Saturday, and have been into the hobby for a few years.
778039
@33MHz Ya... I just got a package this year. I tried swarm catching last year but really no luck. I went crazy this year and make a custom hive... then ordered bees. ORDERED $$$$$$$$$$$$ BEES. LOL
778047
@33MHz Hoping this year is my year. :)
778048
@rizenine yeah,I've gotten bees every which way, this is my first year buying NUCs for my own backyard, and it's certainly expensive. Those package bees are so ambitious!
778053
@33MHz Agreed. If I can get my own going... I'm going to try and give them to others too. That's just crazy price for bugs. LOL

Here's my crazy hive idea in action. It might crash and burn... but I'm doing it anyway. :)

I did some CAD/3D printing for the ports and gates. There's another port at the top. I'm calling it a BeeYurt. It's got a canvas jacket with insulation inside that. I've been keeping track of the temp... but I need to get an Arduino or something set up to track it long term. I think temperature control is going to be key for me. Having fun... so that's what counts. :) …

@rizenine wow, that is crazy. What a contraption! 😆

Do you have standard frames inside? It looks really hot.
778147
@33MHz Indeed the temp is going to be interesting. It has insulation and vent options. So far the bees keep it 30 to 35 all day and night. Clearly that changes as the cluster moves. No frames or anything. Honey is collected off the top... at some point.

I would like to drop a webcam in it at some point. It's a real frankenhive!!! I've tried and failed so many times... with so many different hives. ugh. :) …

@rizenine How long have they been in there? They have some nice comb built?
778280
@rizenine It's a ridiculous contraption, a great experiment. My interest is piqued. :)
778282
@33MHz That it is! 🤣 It's really simple and light. The bees have been installed for about two weeks.
778318
@rizenine I'm not much for 3D printing - that's more @unixb0y @timofjungle and some others here. @runeranch? But we're all softwares. ;)
778040
@33MHz @unixb0y @timofjungle @runeranch Cool. I just got into 3D printing. I made a HyperCube for my first printer. It's amazing!!!! @vagabond knows all about it. :)

@rizenine Nice, welcome to the hobby! Did you get a kit or build it yourself? And which board and software are you running on it? CoreXY is a great platform, I should build one, too!
// @33MHz @timofjungle @runeranch @vagabond
778066
@unixb0y @33MHz @timofjungle @runeranch @vagabond I built it myself. I used a BigTree SKR 1.3 with 32 bit controller with Marlin 2.0 and TMC2208....

I did the dual Z version. The bed is like 300x300ish... but 12v!!! I just got my 120v with SSR today. So no more warm-up times for me. Plus I had issues with large ABS at 110. Which is the highest I could get it to do... in my lifetime. LOL For sure... super fun!!!…

@rizenine That sounds great! I have the SKR 1.4 coming in the mail any day for one of my printers 😊

Yeah 300x300 on 12V must take quite a bit haha. I'm mostly printing PLA and PETG so I'm totally fine with waiting 2 mins for the 60°C.
778079
@rizenine Btw. I would recommend a magnetic build surface, there are great and cheap options from China that you basically just stick onto a generic heatbed.

// @33MHz @timofjungle @runeranch @vagabond
778080
@unixb0y I will probably be there someday. After I run out of Aqua Net. 🤣 It was on sale! I did PLA at the start.... then PETG... now ABS. I do like ABS so far. I have some Nylon, TPU and T-Glase spools to try... @33MHz @timofjungle @runeranch @vagabond

I have a Bowden so I'm not sure how good the TPU will work... and I don't think I want to mod to direct drive right now. Other fun to be had. :) Those flex beds do look nice. What materials work best? Do you still need anything on it... or just print. …

@rizenine Building a DIY SLA isn't a thing as far as I know. One one hand they're more complicated to make, with the lasers and stuff, and on the other hand they're just not "RepRap" anymore :D

@unixb0y Almost forgot my most recent project... This is a cup turner I built. So the CAD drawing and the finished project. I had copper color paint. :) I wanted to post it online at some point.
