"special-case subdomain “www”"

@33MHz Kind of makes sense for Web browsers (of course it's www on the Web), but still… weird.

@ryb Yeah, I get it. I still feel like it's overloading identity with URLs. It's a pretty technical thing. I think their default makes not doing something with "www" a security risk, but, everything's a security risk!

"we will hide URL components that are irrelevant to most Chrome users."

@33MHz in general, this trend of hiding things because “users might need to learn something” is the most terrible trend in security yet imo

@Savaran Agreed. I'm OK with FF emphasizing the root domain. I'd be glad for browsers to really parse the URL out for users - go wild with it, why not? Different color for protocol, subdomain, domain, tld, port, path, query string... Why not?

@33MHz yeah for sure!

@Savaran I know they've all spent a lot of time working on this problem.

This would make me happy. Would have to have color blind alts (hey, just make a little theme editor 😁).

Can I make an extension that does this, or is that all neutered?

@33MHz that is slick looking

@Savaran Looks like I could do an extension that breaks up the parts in omnibox "suggestions", but coloring anything doesn't seem to be an option.
