Transcoding 1080p video on the M1 Mac mini. It’s cold to the touch. I can’t hear any fan noise. A full feature length movie is on track for a complete transcode in 15 minutes…
@habanero Yup! The first generation of their M-series. I used the hardware assisted transcoding, but I’ll give the software-only transcoding a whirl sometime soon, just to see the difference.
@Streakmachine sounds like you may be pleasantly surprised by SW transcoding if that thing is cool to the touch with HW transcoding. The M series is a delight for media enthusiasts from what I’ve seen and read.
@habanero I’m quite impressed so far. Been meaning to transcode more movies and tv series to more sane and reasonable formats, but the speed of the 2018 Mac mini was only good for Full HD. Beyond that it just took too long, and I had a new hot plate…
