@igmp_join at my old job I used raspberry pis to control door locks, and I hooked up a USB speaker to it and when a certain person would walk through a certain door I would have it play the imperial march.

but like, what's the cost on that per instance?
cheap and small are both pretty nice to have.
a WiFi or radio connected, specifically identifiable, speaker would be enough

@33MHz I guess the raspberry pis i think of are ten years old now. they're probably cheaper not

@igmp_join yeah, it's not ideal for sure as a standalone speak-controller, because it has so many moving software parts.
