I got a broken, beat up, old laptop in the mail Friday, and successfully transplanted the screen into my old laptop. Now I have a few spare parts and an extra battery for it too! $33 with shipping. Jahoo!
@33MHz bro, i respect your well-rounded technical and hands-on skills! i will probably never get there, but hearing about this is pretty cool and inspiring
@flashblu I'm very bad at soldering (or maybe soldering iron quality makes a big difference, I don't know), but I was willing/able to get this resistor off. Glad to give anything a try. 😅
@phoneboy absolutely. I repaired my first LCD monitor by replacing a capacitor, and was just given this 55" TV that works now… Maybe I can drop a screen off at the thrift store.
@phoneboy especially with the kids growing up, they'll need terrible little computers periodically, so I'll appreciate this thing working. We hook it to the TV when we want to stream something, so its screen isn't critical, but we can use it other ways now
