@33MHz definitely recommend if you like other works by Paul Thomas Anderson. Explores a lot of the same themes of toxic masculinity and violence, but like, in a fun way!
@jeremycherfas@33MHz Punch Drunk Love was more difficult for me to watch than There Will Be Blood. I think perhaps because of the particular family dynamic where the main character is belittled and bullied by his family? Not sure!
@moineaupetit It was a while ago, and because I viscerally did not like it I didn’t dwell on why. Maybe the violence and machismo were just too pointless for me. I thought Blood was wonderful, as was Magnolia.
@jeremycherfas@moineaupetit I am realizing I haven't seen any movies from Paul Thomas Anderson. I thought I'd seen Magnolia, and I thought Rushmore was his. Didn't know the relationship with John C Reilly.
@33MHz@jeremycherfas I’ve only seen TWBB and PDL, but I’d like to watch more. Paul Thomas Anderson isn’t my favorite, but I still want to watch what he makes because it’s usually good.
I can see a connection between Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson, too (other than the last name). The sense of humor in both their works is detached and dry, sometimes about horribly dark things, and sometimes about absurd things
