I finally got around to trying out #slidge (https://sr.ht/~nicoco/slidge/) on my #xmpp server to connect up a few of those other chat services and I gotta say I'm really impressed.
@33MHz wow so this fork is backed by the big tech companies, which I bet will ultimately kill redis. The fork I’m keeping an eye on is redict which is more community driven. I wonder how long until these forks diverge.
@bayprogrammer X knew it had a problem, but didn't, and probably still doesn't understand that problem. Which gets amplified by the echo-chamber effect. Personally I'm glad to be done with that experience and happy to see others find there way out too.
@bayprogrammer yeah I'm real big on having an accessible API, and I like to self-host where I can, particularly in the social space where community interactions are important.
@bayprogrammer I suspect at this point it's habit for a good portion of that remaining community. I imagine there numbers have been dwindling steadily over time.
Eventually I'm going to get around to building import support into my friendica addon so I can pull in my pnut feed and possibly better keep up with all my internet friends...
@kyle I can relate, having done it a few times myself, most recently to Seattle. I've been fortunate that I've been able to form new connections while keeping up with my family and friends in California. But it can be tough.
