If ActivityPub succeeds, it could be the ultimate lock-in. Too big to die and be replaced. Like HTTP, HTML. 😛

@33MHz Will you yield?
1159520
@ryb I don't think so… I don't think my goals are compatible with the ecosystem.

@33MHz Was going to ask if it was possible for pNut to be part of the fediverse and if so if you’d ever do it.
1159557
@eyes @ryb some thoughts from 4 years ago: posts.pnut.io/498166. pnut is too small for microblogging, but submitting to the activitypub gods would flip everything upside down methinks.
1159572
@eyes @ryb I guess it would be ceding that the most important thing about pnut is the little group of people we still have together, and not pnut as an artifact.
1159573
@33MHz @eyes @ryb Right. If I want the flood that is Mastodon, I know where to find it.

@eyes @ryb Which is cool and probably true! But then we could all just start an E-mail list serve, or go to appdot.net.
1159574
@33MHz ooh! I had no idea that existed!@ Wonder how I can get invited?
1159575
@Eyes Check your DM.

@33MHz Not sure why you say it's too small for microblogging? Do you mean that the userbase is too small to have conversations around your posts? @eyes

@ryb Yeah, it's not as if there's a real requirement, but our size does crimp folks' style, which has had to adapt to a less bubbly brook.
1160231
@33MHz Have you looked into WebMentions? Seems like it could be a way to have cross-platform conversations but I don't know enough about it to know how well it could work.

@33MHz HTTP went from 1.0 to 1.1 to 2.0 to QUIC/3; HTML has gotten all sorts of upgrades from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5. Do you think ActivityPub would just get locked in and ossified harder/faster than HTML/HTTP?
1162790
@adiabatic I think proponents of protocols Other than HTTP would say HTTP has sucked the air out of the room.
