Argh! I just watched a male cardinal attacking my beehives! It was pecking at the entrances. I happen to have just bought an owl scarecrow, so I just set it at the hives for now.

@33MHz Cardinals aint too bright. I watched on attacking its reflection in our windows. Amusing and expected from an aggressively territorial bird... for a week or two during during nesting season. Annoying after the idiot kept it up all summer.

@prometheus I've found bee body parts on top of the hives in previous years, and a couple years ago I saw a bird swooping around the entrance, but never actually seen a bird attacking the entrance.

@33MHz makes no sense anyway, cardinals are ground feeders.

@prometheus Cardinals are Tanagers, which is the other bird I've seen at the hives. Tanagers grab bees and will smash their heads on branches until they fall apart, and then eat them.

@33MHz come to think of it, we have seen a cardinal once or twice at our bird feeders...which are two stories off the ground because bears and cats and we wanted to see them from the kitchen.

@33MHz you should train an owl to protect your hives
