A friend found bees on their tree, so I helped my father-in-law set up a swarm trap at the foot of it last weekend. I haven't heard back on how it went, though. #π
I worked the bees last night. Took the feeder off East hive. West hive successfully merged (no more laying workers!), but still had 3 deeps on it. I moved the bottom to the E hive, inspecting and brushing off all the bees. #π
This evening Anna spotted a bumblebee asleep on these flowers in the yard. So cute for them to do this. They'll sleep on a flower when they are tired and too far from home. Swaying in the wind all night. #π
On Saturday I removed the extra spacer on my remaining hive. They were building a little comb in it, of course! Glad I took it out. Healthy looking bees, though I didn't inspect. #π
Looks like this won't be in the right order, but: A couple tablespoons of crystalized honey added to my jar, and 23 days later, it's creamed! Very nice. #π
I got pictures of the devastation of the East hive from the last month of freezing temps, today. I'll post 'em soon. It has not fared well. Large population, and lots of varroa mites in the mix.
Hopefully OK - I am experimenting with them. βΊοΈ #π
The East hive has been hit hard by the freezing temps the last couple weeks. Yesterday we had a beautiful 50F, so they were all out. They clogged the entrance with dead bodies... So I helped them out. I inspected the bottom board... all the dead varroa. #π
I took some pictures Monday of the bees, when we had 60F weather. Both hives look good for now, and have plenty of mountain camp feed on. West hive is really actively taking it in. #π
