This was a delightful movie with a few crazy unlikely but true facts (the coin flip, the day the music died, not knowing Spanish) and a few obvious embellishments for movie making-sake. Simple Hollywood style movie with great music from Santana performed by los lobos, good beats and choices.
Cast: Jackie Chan, Anita Yuen, Michael Wong, Shing Fui-On, Dayo Wong
Rating: 2/5
good moves. terrible plot. surprised by Chan's stone cold approach, until the very last scene. funny charicatures of German bad guys, Mitsubishi good guys, police and interpol.
Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Piper Perabo, Noah Segan
Rating: 3.5/5
looper had a great concept and well executed environment. I wish Christopher Only had directed it.
The abrupt shift in character focus and perspective half way through the 2 hour movie made sense, but left me very uninterested. No investment in the new setting. Last plot pieces felt forced and unemotional.
"The very medium of the moving picture exists to create the suspension of disbelief, and there is no greater live performer than Chan to make us believe you can beat up a street gang with a linen jacket and refrigerators."
We watched 3 Ninjas tonight. Classic, a little rote. Surprising how long the fight sequences are. It leaves less time for storytelling, which also leaves less time for mistakes.
Wow, watched Suburbia (1983) this evening, and Little Rascals (same director/writer) fits into the same mold, just smaller kids. Thought it was really good.
